THE STRING PREPARATORY PROGRAM

Since its inception in 1991, the CWU Preparatory Program has grown to where it now services more than fifty young string players. Music education students at Central have the opportunity to teach private lessons and even direct ensembles.

Long noted for its teacher education program, CWU offers an exceptional opportunity to string players who aspire to become string teachers in either the public schools or in a private studio setting. The Central Washington University Preparatory Program is the source of string instruction in Ellensburg. These students come from all the area schools to participate in ensembles led by music education students at Central, and to take private lessons from college students who are interested in teaching. To ensure high standards of music instruction, all ensemble directors and student teachers are required to take the string pedagogy course and are supervised by the string faculty.

"Working with the students is exciting and inspiring"
Carin Haines, 1998 music education graduate, private teacher, Tucson, Arizona

"The Preparatory Program helped me to get involved in string teaching and become more confident in doing it."
Julia Kostenko, 1997 performance graduate, New World Symphony
